Ms. Florett Hutchinson holds a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and Social Work, Diploma in Counselling, Diploma in Higher Education and Accreditation in Training and Development. She worked as a Social Worker for the last 18 years and works as an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) for a local authority for the last 9 years. Prior to this, she worked as an Employment Advisor, Youth Worker and a Community Support Worker.

Alongside her professional life, Ms Hutchinson has been engaged several in people-centred functions mainly through volunteering. Examples include supporting people with issues of grief and loss. She as well worked as a volunteer with older people from the African and African-Caribbean communities. She was involved in supporting people with mobility issues, organising and facilitating at events. Currently, she is a volunteer for a local charity that supports families and individuals by providing them with food which would otherwise be wasted. This entails the collection and transportation of food items to individuals, other charities and groups.

Florett has enormous interest in supporting and helping people that may find it difficult or challenging to access education, services and facilities due to communication difficulties. These barriers may be physical, mental or psychological as well as congenital. She enjoys being with people of all walks of life, loves to travel and cook various African and Caribbean delicacies in the many forms a food item can take on. For instance, In Ghana we all know Kenke, (made from corn dough) however it is not known in the Caribbean, nevertheless we (Carribeans) use corn to make a variety of sweet and savoury dishes.

After her first visit to Ghana in 2012, it has now become her adopted home where she has found her niche and hence, she is committed to supporting CNBC as best as she can.

Creating New Beginnings is a charity sponsoring the education of disadvantaged children with learning difficulties and autism. We fundraise to attract grants and donations to sustain and develop our special needs education services in Ghana.
